THIS IS NOT A COURSE!

Enter SYSTEM 5 TRAINING.

Build and Maintain your Scales Skills

with 10 minute Practice Routines

Who is this for? Think “Gym”.

The System 5 TRAINING is for players of any level.

Beginners, Intermediate, Aspiring Advanced.

How is that possible?

Just like at the Gym, THE TOOLS ARE THE SAME FOR EVERYONE.

Depending on your level you’ll simply perform a different number of repetitions, lift a different load, workout with different degrees of intensity.

The System 5 TRAINING works the same way.

As a Beginner,

You’ll enter a Comprehensive Scale learning method right from the start.

You’ll work at your own pace thru a systematic method with no extra material needed other than your guitar and your device.

Practice anytime and anywhere, in convenient 10-minute time blocks.

No matter how early you are in your path, you’ll learn how to practice with a Pro and Complete mindset since the very beginning.

As an Intermediate Player,

You’ll FIND the gaps, FILL them IN and vastly EXPAND from there.

You’ll learn on a deeper level what makes each Scale unique and how to convey its specific Sound.

You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how great players master scales and develop a clear perception of where you are and where you are going.

You’ll enjoy a unique guitarist-friendly improvisation-based method.

You’ll perform specific practices targeted to enhance your overall Scale-awareness to new levels.

As an Aspiring Advanced Player,

You’ll learn what really MAKES THE DIFFERENCE in the Long Game of learning Scales, you’ll challenge yourself on new levels you’d never thought of.

You’ll equip your musical hears with new tools and discover new levels of refinement.

You’ll work on a few recommended Extra practices/challenges.

You’ll spend enough focused time to not only “Learn the Dots” but to Transcend them as well.

You’ll acquire a valuable set of tools you’ll be able to teach later to your own students.

Improvisation-based.

Let's face it, most of us would prefer spending time Improvising on the guitar rather than studying Scales...

Good news is that you can do both at the same time!

The SYSTEM 5 Training uses Improvisation extensively.

More preciselyselective improvisation.

That's the most effective (and fun) way to let all the information sink in for real.

Drones. Everywhere.

The Sound of every Scale lies in the distances between each note and the Root Note.

That’s why every minute spent learning scales without listening to an Anchor Note is basically wasted.

Every SYSTEM 5 Training Routine has a carefully crafted Drone Sound playing the Root Note in the background as an Anchor for your ears.

This will make every single minute of your practice count!

Knowing vs DOING.

Yes, you could know that "the Mixolydian is simply a Major Scale but starting from the 5th note"...
But does that information alone let you effortlessly play Mixolydian across the whole neck, in any Key, with confidence?
No, it doesn't.

Yes, you could know that "the Blues Scale is simply a minor Pentatonic but with an added b5 note."
However, does knowing that make you play the Blues Scale across the whole fretboard consciously, in any key?
Of course not.

In fact, constantly comparing a Scale to some other Scale DOESN'T WORK IN PRACTICE.

The System 5 TRAINING treats each Scale Uniquely, without any comparison!

You'll notice that comparisons between Scales will emerge spontaneously after practicing different Scales for an adequate amount of time.

In other words, comparing Scales should be the organic RESULT of practicing and definitely NOT A STARTING POINT!

“We don’t rise to the level of our expectations.
We fall to the level of our Training.

-Archilochus

Modes vs SCALES.

I usually use the word Mode only when I need to explain why I never use it.

Most of the typical confusion students have when approaching Modes comes from thinking that Modes must be something different than Scales.
Something that goes beyond that, an "advanced concept" that requires to be framed differently.

When they see that table with a Major Scale generating different Modes they kind of have their worst fears confirmed, because it does look intricate.

The way the information is shown makes them think that every time they need to play a particular Mode, they would first need to tell themselves an entire story, literally.
At best, it goes something like this:
"Ok, let me think... so in order to play the A Mixolydian, which is the... 5th...? Yes, 5th. The 5th Mode of the Major Scale... I should play the notes of the... *calculating a perfect 5th descending interval*... E Major Sc... No, wait, it's not E, it's... D actually. D Major Scale. Yes. Let me find the D Major Scale on the fretboard... mmm... there. Ok, I'm ready".

What usually follows is... a solo with the "right" notes... but a bit weird.
Definitely not a good solo.

Why?

The muscle memory they've gained by practicing the Major Scale will lead them to LAND naturally on the Characteristic Notes of the D Major Scale.
Those are NOT the Characteristic Notes of the A Mixolydian.

Not to mention that by the time the calculations are done an entire song's verse could be already gone...

Fortunately, THERE'S A MUCH BETTER WAY TO PLAY THE MODES!

The System 5 TRAINING handles each Mode as a Single, Unique SCALE, BECAUSE IT IS.

You'll train yourself on becoming aware of each Scale's Unique Characteristic Notes, and on building the muscle memory that each specific Scale requires.

You'll also train your hears along with that!

As a consequence, no before-playing calculations will be required, you'll be able to go straight to the Essence of each Scale immediately and consciously, in any key.

Learn the Dots,

Connect the Dots,

Transcend the Dots.
